Managing Multiple Creative Demands!

Here's How Ed did it...

Ok, here is the process for Managing Multiple Creative Demands :)

All of us have more to do than we have time to do, and we all experienced the wasted time in trying to multi-task. Well, there is ONE TIME THAT MULTI-TASKING WORKS! and that is when you let your subconscious work on it in the background. And your subconscious mind is far more powerful than your conscious mind.

This process works for any creative work, such as:

  • Writing blogs, books, important emails, any creative work
  • Planning video scripts/outlines
  • Planning important meetings
  • Planning kickbutt presentations
  • Planning an important discussion with a client/employee/family member
  • Clarifying your vision
  • Anything else creative like your elevator speech, questions to ask a special interviewee
  • ...and on and on. Any creative challenge.

And the way the process works, it CREATES energy. It doesn't suck energy.

The 3-Step process for Managing Multiple Demands:

1. Create a file, folder or somewhere to capture your ideas to solve each particular challenge. It could be a few pages of a notebook for each Demand, or a computer or tablet file for each one. It could be on your phone if you're good at capturing information on that.

2. Write/type an Effective Question whose answer solves the demand. Examples:

  • What are all the topics, quotes, ideas, processes or other things I want to put in this book that would provide the most value to the readers?
  • What are the 3-4 most important elements of this upcoming meeting, and how would I best lead a discussion on each one?
  • How would I start this presentation that capture their attention most quickly and effectively? What are the key components of the presentation? How would I end it for the most impact?
  • How would I have this discussion with x person in a way that would keep them open to discussing the issue and optimize the results?
  • How would I have this discussion with x person in a way that would keep them open to discussing the issue and optimize the results?

3. Whenever you have ideas about any of your creative projects pop into your mind, immediately capture them.

Write/type about it as long as you're energized to do so, then stop. Move on to your next action for the day knowing that you'll have other creative ideas later.

When you use this process, several things will happen:

  • You'll get each demand accomplished "in the right time."
  • You'll be energized, be in the flow as the ideas come up.
  • The demands will be easy, not a struggle.

Some of you will realize you're doing something similar to this already when you're being your most creative. This might just put some structure around it that might be useful.

ENJOY! or do it In Joy!
